Job Summary

 

This position will provide experienced Civil Engineering support to Technical Operations within the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).

 

Years of Relevant Experience

 

The position requires 4-7+ years of relevant experience providing civil engineering support, specific experience within the FAA or FAA Technical Operations is desired and preferred.

 

 

Essential Job Functions

 

The following duties are normal for this position.  The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from this position if the work is similar, related, and/or a logical assignment for this position.  Other duties may be required and assigned.

 

·      Individuals will be required to contribute effectively to working groups through oral and written communication and cooperative working relationships.

·      Designs, reviews, and oversees of FAA buildings, equipment shelters, communication centers, access roads, and other FAA facilities as needed.

·      Develops engineering designs and site adaptation of standard engineering designs.

·      Conducts site surveys for facilities and systems, as well as develops and coordinates project scope, cost estimates, facility and NAS risk mitigation, project schedules, resource requirements, and project closeout for assigned projects. 

·      Conducts engineering analysis and studies for establishment, sustainment, and maintenance projects.

·      Develops the project scope of work, coordinating with subcontractors, and communicating with the client.

·      Develops design drawings and specifications for construction following relevant codes and standards.

·      Estimates, manages, and accounts for funding of assigned projects.

·      Reviews and approves contractor submittals.

·      Interfaces with Acquisitions on contract award, contract modifications, and materials acquisitions.

·      Ensures conformance with established FAA regulations, policies, and procedures.

·      Performs multiple, varying, and complex assignments and plans the implementation of projects/programs under limited direction of a manager, a project/program manager, or more experienced engineer.

·      Applies experience and advanced knowledge of engineering principles, theories, and concepts to accomplish assigned design and installation projects. Understands how his/her technical area interacts by other disciplines and considers the interactions and impacts of all disciplines on projects.

·      Defines, plans, and organizes assigned resources to accomplish organizational objectives.

·      Works closely with project managers to establish project timelines and designs.

·      Executes project based on outlined criteria.

·      Communicates complex engineering related information orally and in writing to diverse audiences, some of whom may not have a background in the subject matter.

·      Possess knowledge of the NAS, which includes the systems and facilities that interrelate for the control of aircraft movement.

·      Solves problems with stakeholders inside and outside of the organization to find mutually beneficial solutions.

·      Plans and manages multiple simultaneous projects and work activities. in accordance with cost, schedule, and technical baselines.

·      Maintains and builds collaborative relationships.

·      Provides engineering support during construction.

·      Develops recommendations to solve unforeseen problems in the field.

·      Creates detailed purchase requisitions for material purchase procurement, supplier services, and subcontracts.

·      Leads meetings and develop meeting minutes.

·      Oversees subcontractor to verify adherence to drawings and specifications.

·      Supports project closeout and lessons learned documentation.

·      Performs other responsibilities associated with this position as may be appropriate.

 

 

 

Education Requirements

Bachelor’s degree required, candidates with degrees in Civil Engineering &/or other related engineering fields are preferred.

Master’s degree is a plus and may count as additional years of experience

 

 

Skills Requirements

·      Strong analytical background and excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

·      Experience preparing, providing, and evaluating conventional plans, designs, design specifications, and related documentation.

·      Experience inspecting facilities to assess compliance with City and States engineering Codes, OSHA and EOSH policies.

·      Experience participating in design and design reviews for Civil engineering aspects of facilities and construction projects.

·      Experience with various Civil engineering systems.

·      Conducts assessments and predicts sound solutions and safety hazards and risks for new and existing FAA structures as well as site inspections, overseeing the testing and operation of systems.

·      Analyzing and evaluating adequacy of systems; preparing and presenting complex code interpretations

·      Conducting Civil designs in support of construction/installation projects for FAA facilities.

·      Provide professional engineering solutions to repair, modernize, operate and install systems in new and existing FAA structures.

 

 

 

Security Requirements

Must be a US citizen or a legal resident for three of the past five years. Must meet eligibility requirements for a US Public Trust security clearance.
